Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 has come and gone, and Geoff Keighley’s two-hour showcase delivered a huge collection of new trailers, gameplay reveals, release dates and a few genuine surprises.

From a new The Witcher 3 remaster and expansion to the long-awaited Metro 2039, a new single-player Rainbow Six and several intriguing new IPs, there was plenty for gamers to get excited about.

Here are some of the biggest games featured during the show.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was the announcement that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a remaster.

Originally released in 2015, CD Projekt RED is bringing the classic RPG back with improved visuals, enhanced combat and movement, an updated skill tree, improved monster behaviour and other enhancements.

The remastered version will launch on September 29, 2026.

Even better, existing owners of the game will receive the remaster as a free upgrade on supported platforms. The game is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2.

The remaster will include both existing expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past

CD Projekt RED wasn’t finished with Geralt.

Alongside the remaster, the studio revealed Songs of the Past, a brand-new expansion for The Witcher 3.

The expansion will take Geralt to a new region, introduce new monsters and feature a new weapon. It is being developed with veterans from the original Witcher 3 team.

Songs of the Past is currently scheduled for 2027.

Considering The Witcher 3 originally launched more than a decade ago, getting another substantial adventure with Geralt is one of the most unexpected announcements of Gamescom 2026.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Square Enix showed more of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, including some spectacular footage of the game’s enormous Weapons.

Cloud and the rest of the party will once again face some seriously intimidating enemies, with the trailer featuring Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon and Ultima Weapon.

The game is scheduled to launch in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

Metro 2039

Fans of the Metro series finally got another substantial look at Metro 2039.

Developed by Ukrainian studio 4A Games, the new entry continues the series’ focus on a brutal post-apocalyptic world, but its story is taking a particularly serious approach to themes surrounding war, tyranny and its consequences.

The gameplay trailer showed the familiar combination of tense exploration, gunplay and terrifying encounters that Metro fans have come to expect.

Metro 2039 is currently scheduled to arrive in February.

Rainbow Six Tactics

Rainbow Six is going in a completely different direction.

Rainbow Six Tactics is a single-player tactical game inspired by titles such as XCOM.

Players will command a squad of Rainbow operators, planning missions and making tactical decisions rather than directly controlling an operator in the traditional Rainbow Six style.

The game features characters from Rainbow Six Siege and the Vegas games, with 15 operators confirmed for the playable roster.

It is currently scheduled for 2027.

Gears of War: E-Day

Microsoft and The Coalition showed another look at Gears of War: E-Day.

The game takes players back to the infamous Emergence Day, making it a prequel to the original Gears of War.

The latest trailer focused heavily on the story and the relationship between Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago.

Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6, 2026.

Ananta

Previously known by its former codename, Ananta is still looking like one of the strangest combinations of genres we’ve seen.

The free-to-play open-world game mixes anime characters, driving, combat, exploration and a huge modern city.

It has frequently been compared to an “anime GTA”, although the latest trailer demonstrated that Ananta has plenty of its own ideas.

The game is scheduled to launch globally on January 15, 2027.

Tides of Annihilation

One of the most visually impressive games at Gamescom was Tides of Annihilation.

The action game combines a modern-day London with Arthurian mythology after a supernatural catastrophe has transformed the city.

Players take control of Gwendolyn, who must fight through the ruined world while making use of spectral knights based on the Knights of the Round Table.

The latest trailer showed off more of the game’s stylish combat, enormous enemies and strange fantasy world.

A release date has not yet been announced.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

From Rebel Wolves comes The Blood of Dawnwalker, a dark fantasy RPG set in medieval Europe.

The game follows Coen, a man who becomes a vampire and must balance his humanity with his new supernatural abilities.

The game features an open world, a day-and-night cycle and choices that can significantly affect the story.

The latest Gamescom presentation confirmed that the game is coming on September 3, 2026.

Exodus

Exodus has been one of the more intriguing upcoming sci-fi RPGs for years, and Gamescom finally gave us a release date.

Created by Archetype Entertainment, a studio founded by former BioWare developers, Exodus has inevitably attracted comparisons to Mass Effect.

The game combines third-person action with a huge science-fiction universe and a story involving humanity’s attempts to survive among the stars.

Exodus launches on April 7, 2027.

Control Resonant

Remedy Entertainment also brought Control Resonant to the show.

The latest trailer provided another look at the bizarre supernatural world surrounding the game and the strange powers players will be able to wield.

As with the original Control, expect plenty of paranormal weirdness, reality-bending environments and Remedy’s trademark storytelling.

The game is coming soon, with its latest Gamescom appearance serving as another reminder that the release is getting closer.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Konami showed a new trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall, giving fans another glimpse at the upcoming psychological horror game.

The latest trailer focused on the game’s cast and atmosphere rather than revealing everything about its story.

As you’d expect from a Silent Hill game, things look deeply unpleasant.

The game is currently listed as coming soon.

Nodusfall

One of the night’s biggest new IP reveals came from HoYoverse.

Nodusfall looks very different from the company’s more familiar games such as Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

The game combines large-scale monster battles with dark fantasy and action RPG mechanics, immediately drawing comparisons to Monster Hunter and FromSoftware’s games.

The reveal trailer featured enormous creatures, including dragons and other gigantic monsters.

There is currently no confirmed release date.

There Was Plenty More

Those were just some of the biggest games shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live.

The presentation also featured Sea of Remnants, Lofsöng, Mega Man: Dual Override, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, 1001 Threads of Mizan, Aion 2, Project ZETA, Cinder City, Ontos, Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, Zoopunk and many others.

The pre-show alone included announcements for games including Worms: Galactic Tactics, Humankind 2, Valor Mortis, Tank Rat, Mariachi Legends, Aniimo and Acornia: Mirror Worlds.

And that’s before the rest of Gamescom 2026 has even happened.

For gamers, the next few years are looking extremely busy.
