Cool Spot Mega Drive / Genesis Cheats – 7UP’s Most Radical Secrets

coolspot mega drive cheats codes

Before energy drinks took over your childhood, there was a tiny red mascot flipping, shooting bubbles, and somehow making a platformer about soda absolutely work. That mascot was Cool Spot, and on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), the game hides some surprisingly powerful cheats and debug tricks.

If you ever got stuck on a level as a kid (or just wanted to mess around), these codes are about to make your day.

Level Select Cheat (Sega Mega Drive / Genesis Version)

This is the big one.

On the Options screen, enter:

A → B → C → B → A → C → A → B → C → B → A → C

If done correctly, you’ll unlock Level Select, letting you jump to any stage in the game.

Perfect for skipping those brutal late-game platforming sections.

Debug Mode (Hidden Developer Tools)

Want to break the game wide open?

At the Options screen, enter:

A → A → B → B → C → C → C → C → B → B → A → A → A → A → B → B → C → C

If successful, you unlock Debug Mode, which gives you access to developer-style features when playing.

Think of it as stepping behind the curtain of a 90s platformer.

Game Genie Cheats (For Cartridge Cheat Devices)

If you had a Game Genie back in the day, these would’ve made Cool Spot way less stressful:

  • Infinite LivesRG7T-26XJ
  • InvincibilityATGT-4A6L
  • Infinite TimeREHA-46V8
  • Start with more healthASGT-2AFJ / A1GT-2AFJ

Basically: turn Cool Spot from “hard 90s platformer” into “breezy soda tourism simulator”.

Hidden Cheat Menu (Game Gear / Master System Style Bonus)

While this isn’t always used on Mega Drive specifically, it’s a cool piece of trivia:

On some versions, you can access a hidden cheat menu by hovering near the Music option in the Options screen and pressing:

Right, Right, Right, Left, Left, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left

Because of course 90s games loved secret menus hidden in the most random places.

Bonus Tip: “Cool Meter” Strategy

Not a cheat, but it helps:

  • Collect red spots aggressively
  • Try to hit 85% Cool Meter for bonus stages
  • Bonus levels = extra lives + score boosts inside giant 7UP bottles
